Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Great restaurant with a nice atmosphere. We have been going to this restaurant for years and were informed that it was under new ownership a few months ago. The atmosphere was steadily declining, however the food remained very good. Tonight me and my family had dinner there, however we learned that the restaurant was never under new ownership, it was simply the manager passing himself off as the owner. I am happy to report, that the staff was excellent and so was the food. I would suggest that if you stopped coming to Benito's because of the "new owner", it is now safe to return.

I tried this place out for the first time since I heard ownership went back to the founding family. Our server was terrific with a great attitude and personality. Very cozy interior with large bench seating for us. We came for an early dinner on a Tuesday evening. After your drink orders are in, you get free warm fluffy bread rolls just covered with fresh chopped garlic and butter. There were four in a basket and were definitely fresh. Between the four of us, we devoured them and our waiter gladly brought us more per our request. As with most Italian places, portions are very generous. I ordered the calamari with marinara and the calamari was perfectly cooked. Very tender and crispy on the outside. I also highly recommend their fried mozzarella. They're not your average cheese sticks, but instead you get two thick fried mozzarella triangles and they are HUGE! They were exceptionally tasty, tender and filling also served with marinara sauce. I asked for ranch dressing on the side, too. We shared the Fettuccine Alfredo and added the chicken. The chicken addition was $3, but don't think that the flavor warrants that extra price. I would've liked this entree better cooked with a bit more butter and Parmesan cheese. If you like garlic, ask them to add it for this dish. The mussels were plenty and definitely different. You can really taste the wine is this dish, but it was pretty flavorful. Served in a large bowl, make sure to ask for a spoon to scoop up all of that wonderful broth or use the bread rolls to sop it up. Loved how nothing was over salted and simply prepared. Depending who's cooking, I'm sure you can make special requests. Overall, our bill was about $60 plus tip for four dishes, unlimited garlic rolls, a few beers and spot-on service. If you're coming out this way or live close, I would definitely recommend. :)

Great service, great food. I was very surprised at the amount of food and quality for price. Definitely will be a family favorite.

The food here was DELICIOUS! They have a lot of good choices that was all DELICIOUS. We went on a Friday night and they had a singer in the bar area so it was kind of loud and it was hard to hear the people at your own table. Some people don't mind this but I HATE going to loud restaurants where it takes too much energy to talk to the people you are with. I'm sure this place is quieter on a weeknight or for lunch so I'll go back then.

Awesome pizza, Tiramisu, and service! I would recommend this place to try out for sure.

Met some friends here when I made a trip to St. A's. They said they'd eaten here a couple times and enjoyed it. About 10 minutes in, they mentioned that it was already different than previous times. Waitstaff seemed flustered, drink orders hadn't been taken, and when they were finally taken, they seemed to be out of our first two choices on everything. When it came time to order, we experienced the same thing, limited choices compared to what was listed on the menu. When we did find something they had, we ordered it and come to find out, one of us still needed to order something different. The food that was delivered really wasn't all that good either. Too salty and not enough flavor otherwise. It was revealed to us toward the end that there had been a recent (like a couple days before) change in management, so that may explain some of the discombobulation, and I hope the new manager can fix some things. I will say that, since we were catching up, we were there close to closing time and never felt pressured and frankly were made to feel very comfortable, they even offered to let us stay until the cleanup was done, but we did go ahead and leave before the doors were shut.

UPDATE ALERT! Benito's got it right! We tried them out again in September. We ordered 2 meals for delivery. The meals were beautiful and flavorful. The portions were huge. The presentation was clean. After eating, my husband looked up and said, "I have to give it to Benito's. They really did a great job this time." My Grinch heart about Benito's is fading and I believe that I may just order their food again soon! Thank you for a nice experience. I hope for many more.

Service was bad. The salad consisted of lettuce one slice of tomato and one slice of cucumber. Blue cheese dressing was the consistency of water. I ordered the sausage and peppers only to be told they had no sausage. My daughter ordered a side of ranch, they had no ranch. Food was average, not much flavor.

The noise was deafening, the service lousy and the food mediocre at best. Not cheap and not good. Only gave one star because you can't give less and post.

Just moved into the area. We were looking for a local pizza joint that was unique. We ordered the supreme 12in and 16in cheese. The cheese pizza was very good and the kids enjoyed it. The supreme's crust was soggy in middle and we ordered no black olives, but.. They put them on the pizza. We had it delivered, very good option. But, please show up in 45 min. Like you say. Not 1.15 minutes. Not real thrilled about not fulfilling promises. We won't be back, might try some other places first and then try them again.

Ordered the calamari.... Tasted frozen not fresh. Our bread came after our soups and appetizer. We didn't have napkins or silverware half way through the meal. What made all of this even more sad was we were the only people there. The sauce on my shrimp and scallop fettuccine tasted like it came from a can as did the soups we ordered. Scallops were under cooked and rubbery. Huge amount of food for one person I eat. The chef seems to like sprinkling basil on the plates to make them pretty or something. Very disappointed. Won't be going back.

Beautiful! Delicious with very Generous portions a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the Shrimp Bada Bing and Fresh bread with EVOO and spices then the Tomato Florentine Soup and shared a Greek Salad (that thing is HUGE) for our entree's I had the Sausage Marinara and My husband had the Chicken Saltimbocca. Everything was sooo great looking forward to going back. They are 25 miles one way from our home and well worth the trip! Thanks :) Wish I had thought to take a picture everything was so pretty :)

It's nearby and we go once in a while. It is good enough to frequent. Most of the time, the service is good and sometimes we receive great service. We had dinner on this occaision and both our entree's were flavorful and good. I gave 3 stars because nothing stood out on this particular visit. Would be 3.5 if i could give a 1/2 point review.

My family as well as another family of 4 visited Benito's on Friday night. Its been a while since we had been here and I am happy to report it was awesome. First off the service was amazing. Our server was so friendly, very attentive and good with our kids. The portions were great...when my child's kids pizza arrived I was shocked how big it was. LOVED the bread rolls, our stuffed mushrooms were to die for and pretty much the rest of the meal was great for all of us. I had the Chicken Piccata and it was okay, probably would not order again but my husband had the fettuccini and it was sooooooo good! Our friends had the Bada Bing Scallops and the Chicken Parm and both were happy. For dessert we tried the chocolate cake...one word, DELISH! We will be back for sure!

I wanted to like it and maybe I just got a bad night.... We had the mozzarella appetizer, which looked great when it was presented, perfectly golden. When we cut into it, however, the cheese wasn't melted and was still cold in spots. It was still ok, which makes me think it would've been outstanding if the cheese had melted. I ordered the kids pizza, which was a generous size; big enough for my 2 young boys to share. That turned out well, although the crust was a little soggy in the middle. Our entrees came with a choice of soup or salad, to which we both had the cream of mushroom soup. The soup was fantastic. Really, really good. My husband ordered the chicken piccata and I had the special, which was a burgundy veal chop with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Neither of us liked our entrees. The potatoes were incredibly runny and bland. I couldn't even tell if they were real potatoes or instant that were really watered down. The veal chop was mostly ok; a little undercooked on one side. But the whole plate was swimming in oil. Everywhere. The asparagus was the best thing on the plate. My husband ate his piccata but he wasn't happy with it either. He had high hopes for the place after the soup and felt pretty disappointed after the entree. The staff was really pleasant, so I had no issues there. I am hoping we just got an off night. I'm just not sure that we would revisit to find out.

See my tips. We are giving it four stars because we had to wait too long for bread otherwise they would have received five.

Had the tortellini and it didn't have a lot of flavor but wasn't bad. The service left a little to be desired, as soon as our food arrived (which took a little bit and they weren't busy) he disappeared until we were done. If someone opened a "made from scratch" Italian restaurant nearby they might be in trouble. Not too bad for the price just don't expect to be wowed with the flavor.

Poor service. Sat there for 10 minutes before the server told us happy hour ended at 6 when the menu clearly states 7 pm.

Boring food, this whole plaza disappoints. If your looking for Italian food Nonna's was the place to go on 210 but it's closed. This place is for fat people looking for a large portion. Parents wanted to eat here and I was glad to see it changed tastes much better and my feelings bout it have changed.

Once again hit the $5.95 lunch at Benito's and have found a new favorite to add to my list! I had the Eggplant Rotatilla on this go around. Lightly breaded, thinly sliced eggplant layered alternately like a lasagna with Ricotta cheese and pancetta ham (?) I believe. This decadent Italian masterpiece is then topped with mozzarella and baked! This heavy lunch dish is also served with a pasta of your choice, killer olive oil and herb bread and a soup or salad....again.... all for $5.95!! The service has been spectacular each and every time I have frequented Benito's! Amazingly, there is very little lunch crowd here, so if you want some peace and quiet during your lunch this is a great spot!

This is a great Italian food & pizza option in St. Johns off of highway 210. It is a small, modest restaurant with exceptionally fresh food. I was impressed that the owner actually makes most things homemade, and it is reflected in the taste of the food. My favs: Chicken Caccitore and Italian Wedding Cake for dessert (with cream cheese icing! YUM). It is kid-friendly with a good selection of pastas, chicken parm., alfredo, lasagna, and meat sauces for kid, of about $3.95 per kid. Highly recommend this little place with a friendly staff and homemade food at prices that won't break the bank.

I just love this neighborhood hideaway! Ordered the special Almond crusted grouper on a bed of Caesar salad. Was very yummy and I just had to take home my leftovers for lunch today. Very friendly casual atmosphere.

Food was ok, not great... Service was acceptable.

After reading the great reviews, we had to try Benito's. I was a bit disappointed. We ordered two large pizzas, chicken Alfredo and a couple of appetizers. The pizza was fair. The crust didn't seem fresh and the sauce was minimal. However, the toppings were great! They appeared fresh and the cheese had a nice bite to it. The Alfredo wasn't nearly as good. Although the proportions were huge, the Alfredo taste was very bland and lacked flavor. The appetizers were ok, but nothing special.... The prices seemed reasonable, but the restaurant just wasn't what we hoped for. As mentioned, the proportions were large and looked fantastic, but overall lacked flavor and authenticity.

My wife and I really enjoyed Benito's. We had garlic cheese bread and a half Supreme, half Florentina pizza. All of the food tasted great, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The main reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service was just okay. It took a bit too long for the waitress to come by and take our order, and our drinks ran dry several times (the restaurant wasn't busy, she was just socializing with some customers at the bar). While I understand wanting to chat with the regulars, it did detract from our experience a bit , so 4 stars it is. (I do want to say that even though the service was a little slow, the waitress was friendly, so it we really didn't mind too much.)

My wife and I recently had lunch and was our first visit. Lunch specials at $ 6.95 is bargain; added to fact food quality and taste was excellent. Service was attentive. Restroom was spotless. We will return.

Ordered a supreme pizza for takeout with olives & green peppers on 1/2 the pizza. When I picked up,the pizza, I noticed there were no olives & peppers, brought it to their attention & they just added uncooked peppers & olives to the top! Took the pizza but called and spoke to Anya(?) the manager. When I explained what happend, she insisted the pizza was put back in the oven - no way, peppers & olives were cold. She also insisted the order was correct - which it was not. When i asked what about what the customer wants, she hung the phone up. I was not rude or abusive to her. Customer service was totally non-existent - I will not be coming back to this restaurant. This was the Benito's on 210.

This restaurant use to be a different Italian restaurant which was overpriced and the food was terrible. Ever since Benito's replaced it, the food is just slightly overpriced but the food is drastically better. We had the chicken picata which sat on spinach and pasta with sauteed capers and artichoke in lemon butter sauce, and the fruto di mare which had shrimp, scallops, calamari, clam and muscles in white wine sauce. The fruto di mare was on the small side, which could pass for a kids plate for $25. There were no unopen muscles or clams and every thing tasted fresh. The chicken breast was moist and did not disappoint. The best value or bang for the buck is during lunch, M-F 11AM-2PM (which I have only eaten at their Philips Hwy location). They have a lunch buffet that has a variety of rotating items including their tasty gourmet pizzas for $7. Overall, if you are use to NYC italian size portions for dinner, you might be disappointed... which is why I only give it 4 stars. EDIT: Thanks to Dale, I found that Google map shows this inaccurately. Better luck if you put this instead - 2908 Highway 210, Fruit Cove, FL.

Very disappointed. The servers cologne did overpower the smell of the cleaning supplies and everything was downhill from there. The server did not bother to come back to see how the food was or to see if anything else was needed. The hostess? stopped by and we told her one of the salads had rotten vegetables, she offered to replace it but even looking at a full plate and seeing the rotter vegetables did not comp the dish. The other dishes were flavorless and dry. I had heard a lot of good things about the place but will never go back to find out if it was just a bad night. I tried to find a manager on the way out but none were to be found. No stars and I will advise everyone I know to try someplace else for Italian food.
